The League of Dreams seeks self-motivated, charismatic, passionate, and bold community leaders to serve on the distinguished Board of Directors.
The League of Dreams Board of Directors is an all-volunteer Board, committing 1-10 hours a month on mission-based work. League of Dreams Board Members are valued members of our organization and have the opportunity to truly make a difference in the lives of our athletes and their families.
Mission
The mission of the League of Dreams is to give every child a chance to play by providing sports training, team camaraderie, and competitive sporting opportunities for athletes with disabilities.

Purpose
To advise, govern, oversee policy and direction, and assist with the leadership and general promotion of the League of Dreams so as to support the organization’s mission and needs.
Position
The Board will support the work of the League of Dreams and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by the League’s Executive Director, the Board’s relationship with the Director is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Specific Board Member responsibilities include:
- Serving as a trusted representative of the community to implement the strategic plan and fulfill the mission.
- Reviewing outcomes and metrics for evaluating the League’s impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics; reviewing the agenda and supporting materials prior to Board and committee meetings.
- Approving the annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Assisting the Board Chair and Nominating Committee in identifying and recruiting other Board Members.
- Serving on committees or task forces as needed.
- Acting as an ambassador for the organization to share the great work of League of Dreams and encourage community support.

Fundraising
League of Dreams Board Members will make annual gifts, monetarily or voluntarily, to lead by example so that LoD can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals. LoD expects to have 100 percent of Board Members make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity. LoD works within the “Give vs. Get” model, where Board Members are expected to “give” or “get” a specific contribution.
Board Terms/Participations
Board Members will serve a three-year term to be eligible for reappointment for additional terms. Board meetings will be held quarterly and strategic planning every three years or as needed.
Qualifications
Board members should have a passion for the programs and demographics that LoD serves and be willing to use their influence to assist LoD.
Individual Board Member Responsibilities:
- Attend all Board and committee meetings and functions, such as special events, as able.
- Be informed about and understand the organization’s mission, services, policies, and programs.
- Review agenda and supporting materials prior to Board and committee meetings.
- Serve on committees or task forces and offer to take on special assignments.
- Make a personal financial or time contribution to the organization.
- Inform others about the organization.
- Suggest possible nominees to the Board who can make significant contributions to the work of the Board and the organization.
- Follow conflict-of-interest and confidentiality policies.
- Assist the Board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities, such as reviewing the organization’s annual financial statements.
- Attend Board meetings on the 3rd Friday of every other month. Currently meetings are in February, April, June, August, October and December at 11:45 AM and scheduled for 1 ½ hours.
